Busy Macey bags 12 barbel!

Athletics season is upon us, which means I get very little time on the bank. So short sessions after work while I wait for the traffic to ease have been the order of the day.

The barbel on the River Kennet at Burghfield, run by Advanced Angling, has been my chosen target and after not fishing the venue for four years, it has been nice to hit the ground running with 12 fish in 12 hours fishing total.

No monsters have graced my net so far but three 9lb-plus fish on the last trip has more than made my efforts worthwhile.

The key has been my simple approach. Small PVA bags of mixed Hinders Elips and Mainlines Hybrid Response pellets with either a Blitz or Hybrid hook bait. No point in bait dropping a big bed of bait when I'm only on the river for a few hours. I want bites as quick as possible.

Tackle has not changed however: 12' 1.75lb Daiwa Infinity rods, 10lb Drag Line, Micro Lead Clip, 18lb Super Natural braid to a size 10 MWGB.
I can't wait for the autumn when I’ll have more time and the fish will be that little bit fatter!
