King of the Catch 2015 winners announced!

Angling Direct’s King of the Catch competition crowned the winners in each of four categories last week at an awards ceremony.

With a prize pool of over £20,000 in total – including tackle from Guru and Korda - it is the most lucrative free-to-enter fishing competition of its kind, and the winner in each category is decided by a public vote!

More than 850 anglers entered King of the Catch 2015, with fish caught between June 16 and September 16 2015 eligible, and in total more than 16,000 people voted for their favourite catch in each category!

The Coarse and Match category was won by 13-year-old Reece Gray, who received 707 votes for his 13lb carp, and revealed: “I can’t stop smiling. It’s my personal best and I’m so happy to have been crowned King of the Catch with it!”

Specimen ace Barry Fisher was top in the Predator category with a 5lb 11oz eel, securing 714 votes, and enthused: “Blown away, I’m going to run around the village screaming now, thank you so much!”

A 30lb 8oz mirror and 858 votes was enough for Charlie Coppolo in the Carp category, commenting: “Catching the fish in the first place was such an honour and being crowned King of the Catch has only made that more special to me.”

The Sea category was won by Albert Lennox with 1044 votes for his 45lb tope and revealed: “Catching this tope and winning King of the Catch is the pinnacle of my fishing career. I’m absolutely over the moon!”

The winners landed themselves an amazing holiday for two in exclusive, exotic locations around the globe, plus a fishing pack tailored to their category and including a Daiwa rod, GoPro camera, and Angling Direct memorabilia. The runners-up in each category were rewarded with a £1,000 gift card to spend at Angling Direct. This was the inaugural year, and following its success it is due to be repeated during 2016, with details soon to be announced.
