Dean Macey claims victory and raises money for good causes!

The Big Fish Off star and Guru consultant, Dean Macey, put his match fishing experience to good use to win the 4th PDC Celebrity Fishing Championships, and raise money for charity at the same time!

The former Olympic athlete was surrounded by sporting greats such as Anthony ‘Million Dollar’ Crolla, Bobby George, Spencer Oliver, Steve Davis, Barry Hearn and Paul Smith JR, amongst others, during the five hour match at the Manor Farm complex, near Biggleswade, in Bedfordshire.

Things didn’t quite get off to the best start, as Dean explained: “With lots of spectators around I wanted to be pegged in open water, but it wasn’t to be. I drew peg 16 which gave me a small corner of the lake with very little water to work with, and even fewer options.

“The first half of the match flew by with not even so much as a liner, so as we went into the last two hours I decided to go for broke and I filled it in with a mixture of Hinders Little Gemz, hemp and Mainline Response pellets.

“I fished the ever faithful Hybrid feeders over the top with the ready-tied Guru 4 inch hook links, and then sat back to await some action.

“The change certainly seemed to work as in the second half of the match I had four bites resulting in three cracking carp for a total weight of 27lb 4oz, which was enough to win the match!

“It was a great day for a good cause, and to win the match was an added bonus and I was lucky with the size of the fish that I had.

“The highlight of the day though was the great atmosphere and banter by all the competitors, and the general public that bought tickets to come along and support us. I can’t wait to defend the title next year,” he added.
