Hall Lane Diary Part Three- Andy Bennett

Finally the last weekend of the three-day open days has arrived, the Peter Taylor memorial. Andy Bennett and Steve Parry are hoping for their recent form to continue.

‘This was a must win match for me, I needed maximum points if I was to win the three day festival. There was a great turn out for this weekend, making it extremely tight pegging between us all.

With there being so much pressure around the lake, I decided to concentrate all my efforts fishing across to the far side towards some cover. With all the disturbance coming from the near side, I was hoping the fish would be held up in the opposite margin.

I pulled out peg 19, it’s a good area and I knew the ball was firmly in my court. Bait choice for the day was the ever-faithful maggots; they seemed to be the number one bait choice of late. I shipped a few pot fulls across to my area and immediately the action started. I caught steadily throughout the day, up until the last hour when I only managed one fish. It seemed to be a day when things just went right for me and I was confident going into the weighing that I had a good weight in my nets.

I ended up with 95 fish, with a total weight of 156lb. I knew I’d won my section with this weight, but I still had to wait for the full results to find out where I finished. This came as a surprise because every swim was pegged in the match and normally the lake doesn’t perform as well.

My Travelling partner for the day, Mickey ‘drawbag’ Rogerson, managed a well deserved 2nd place with 67lb from peg 12.
Steve Parry completed his top form with another top three position, from another area that proved to be difficult in the last three weekends. He finished up with 61lb coming third overall.

The last few weeks have been really enjoyable on Hall Lane and between Steve and me we have had some great results and laughs along the way. I’m really enjoying my fishing at the moment and with Whiteacres just around the corner, hopefully my form will continue.

Tight Lines, Andy.
