Going For Gold - Pemb Wrighting

"On Sunday myself and new Guru recruit, Paul Holland, fished a well attended open at Gold Valley, on the syndicate lake.

With a chilly start and a hot, flat calm day forecast, it was always going to be a hard match. I drew peg 115, a good area when the lake has a lot of pressure on it. I caught a total of ten carp throughout the day. Eight falling to the lead and two bonus carp on a waggler, all caught over loose fed 8mm pellets.

When it's a hard day like this, it's so important to use tackle you have 100% confidence in, as every single fish counts. For me, the QM1 hook is the ultimate hook when hair rigging; once they're in, they just don't come out. With the help of these hooks I landed every fish I hooked.

At the weigh in I ended up with 59lb, which was enough for second, beaten only by Paul. He had 74lb for a well deserved win. Being good mates, we always share our winnings and when Angie informed us that Paul was on the bonus peg, it really was the icing on the cake.

We both went home with a smile on our faces and a suntan to boot. Roll on summer!"
