Match ace Matt Godfrey joins the Guru team!

Tackle Guru has been strengthened by the addition of several new anglers to the team – including one who will be working full-time for the leading match brand.

Matt Godfrey is well-known in the match fishing world, both as features editor on DHP’s ‘Match Fishing’ magazine, and for his own success – he already has a string of big wins to his name, as well as success at international level, having won three individual Junior World Championships, as well as having fished for the senior team!

Matt, who will be joining us in early February as Guru marketing and media coordinator, enthused: “I am absolutely ready for a new challenge, and I think the move to Guru will be exactly that.

“Guru is a brand that shows powerful leadership on the media front, and I’m hungry to be a part of its continued push forwards, learning and developing my own skills in the process. Of course I am hoping to keep my own fishing up too, and if anything I can only see the move giving me more focus with this.

“One thing I’m particularly excited about is working with the stable of consultants that Guru has – Steve Ringer and Andy Bennett, to name just two. With guys like this, and a team striving to innovate and progress in terms of products and media, I really can’t wait to get cracking. I just hope the boys in Essex can understand my northern ‘twang’,” he joked.

“I’ve loved every minute of working at DHP and made some lifelong friends and I’m leaving Match Fishing in a super-healthy shape, and as a brand it is something that I’ll always want to be associated with, both as an angler and as part of the angling trade.”

“A question a lot of people have been asking what will happen to Bagging Bros, the media channel that I set up with Tom – well I can’t get away from him that easily and it is sure to continue!”

Matt has been working alongside Match Fishing editor Tom Scholey and they have fished together for many years, with him commenting: “From a professional perspective, I am gutted to be losing Matt as he is a very talented journalist and photographer, and will be sorely missed.

“However, from a personal point of view I am very happy for him and think exciting times lie ahead for him. He is the kind of person who will make a success of whatever he does, so I’m sure the future will be very bright for him.”

Guru brand manager Adam Rooney enthused: “I am so delighted that Matt is joining the Guru team and he will be a real asset to the company in so many ways.

“Not only is he a talented journalist and photographer, but beyond that his drive and enthusiasm for the sport is fantastic. He is coming onboard to run the Guru media department, but beyond that, his vast knowledge of angling in the UK and abroad will be a great help in developing the products of the future.

“He is one of the best up-and-coming anglers in the world, with several gold medals under his belt already, and we will support him as much as possible.

“Matt is the perfect addition to help the Guru brand climb to the next level and myself and the team can’t wait for him to start,” concluded Adam.
