Dean Targets Tench - Dean Macey

We enjoyed a day out with Guru’s all-rounder, Dean Macey yesterday, as he fished a practice session for an upcoming Fishing Gurus shoot.

The big man was tench fishing on an Essex club lake, which has produced some huge tench, in the hope that one of those colossal red-eyes would make a mistake for the cameras. Although the large numbers of big tench seem to have dwindled somewhat, there are still some cracking specimens in the lake, which is now extremely prolific, and Dean set his stall out to catch one or two, while refining his tactics for the show.

Dean had a tench and a cracking carp in the net when the cameraman arrived, and managed to keep the action coming throughout the day as spring tench after spring tench rolled over his pan net. Dean used simple tactics that are more closely associated with carp fishing to trick his bag of tench, using a Guru Micro Lead Clip, Korda Distance Casting Lead, Supernatural braided hook link and Guru MWG hooks. He used chopped-down snowman hook baits, coated in Pineapple Supreme Goo, with small PVA sticks filled with Hinders Barbel Bomb groundbait attached.

By the end of the day, Dean had pushed his tally of tench to more than twenty! Baiting little and often with the spod, he was able to keep the fish feeding on his crushed boilie and pellet mix. Keep your eyes on this site for the full feature and accompanying film, which will follow very soon!
